The State of the Nation

You know, we're a young country and, as a friend of mine recently said, empires only last about 200 - 300 years. I wonder exactly who are we to liberate other countries (as is the case with Kosovo), when democracy so clearly isn't working in our own country! When the rich are allowed to oppress the poor and your opinion is only valid if the check you are writing is large.
