A Woman's Place in the Church

I was chatting the other day with a good friend of mine about this very subject. In the secular world, they use this concept as ammunition against the church. Like women are only good for one thing and that's making men happy. So incredibly untrue!

I do not believe in my heart that God has a sexual preference. Men just came first.

In my heart, the reason Jesus had no female apostles is because Mother Mary is perfection (and you can't really improve upon perfection). For those of you who don't know, Mary did quite a bit during her time on earth. Mary's song "the Magnificat," when she first found out she was going to have the Savior of the World, is so incredible, especially considering her young age. What composure! And just think of it, she was the original "prayer warrior." It brings me back to Tessa Bielecki recounting the story of Jesus, Mary and Martha. "Martha, martha!" Mary had the better part in praying over household chores.

Are these people really aware of Mary's pivotal role in Revelations? (As Fr. Peyton might venture to say) "No spring cleaning, that!" She crushes the head of the serpent. Can I get an Amen and a Hallelujah?

And just when you think things can't get any better, my friend chimed in that Mary Magdalene was the first person to preach the Gospel! (And he was a Republican that worked for a strict Christian network, can you dig it?)

The tomb is empty, yo.

Do you got that? Do you got that? Huh? Holla back if you got that. (A little KJ-52 for you, named appropriately after a miracle)

I think that's a solid enough case for women priests.

Who says women can't debate theology!

Why do you believe Mary was perfect? There's nothing in the Bible to that effect.

Have you ever read the Bible? Because if you have, you would know that she was free of sin.

Perhaps you are thinking of perfection as "the world" would define it. No, Mary wasn't a supermodel with a private jet.

If you knew anything about spiritual perfection then you would be agreeing with me. Someone who knows how to read the Bible can also read between the proverbial lines.

Do you work for Bill Maher?

It never fails to astonish me how very little people actually know about the Bible.

Would God allow imperfection to rule the Kingdom of Heaven? I think not.

Mary is the undisputed Queen of Heaven. If you don't believe me, ask (well pray to) Fr. Peyton.

I can see where this is going, you will have no passages to back up your statements. I'll just let you remain in ignorant bliss.

I bet you're not a Christian though and you're only writing to invoke a fight. I'm a pacifist though. Peace.

Do you think the Angel Gabriel goes around saying "highly favored one" to every girl he meets?

I. SHE WAS HIGHLY FAVORED
BECAUSE OF HER CHASTITY.

A. This was the most unique requirement of
the prophecy in Isaiah.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

1. There would be nothing unusual in a young woman conceiving. This happens all the time.
2. There was no room for error.
3. She had to be pure.

And pure = perfect.

I never insulted you because of your ignorance.

Really what it boils down to is a lack of faith. Faith requires effort and clearly you are not willing to take the leap.

You already have your mind made up and there is nothing I can do or say to change it.

None of that says she was perfect, just that she was a virgin. I know plenty of virgins that are far from pure and perfect.

She was highly favored because she was chosen to bare the son of god, again, there is nothing here about perfection.

Chastity does not mean perfection.

You missed the best part of my last comment.

Pure = Perfection

Do you know what it means to be pure?

To be pure, is to be without sin.

I don't mind taking a leap of faith, I'd just rather do it based on what's actually in the Bible.

There are no passages that say she was pure. There is only you saying that she had to be pure. Why do you insist on adding to the Word of God?

Because I'm a Catholic. I believe in the Saints. There is a lot of information missing from the Bible and the Saints fill in the gaps. That's their job.

Did you know that anyone can achieve spiritual perfection if they apply themselves. It takes a lot of work, but it can be done.

It doesn't matter about your past. Do you know the background on St. Augustine or the Prophet Isaiah?

Soon, I will do a post on the way to perfection.
